Special Education Teacher

Provide education and behavior modification approaches in a small class, highly structured alternative school. The special education teacher will function as a member of a treatment team, which will address the educational, and emotional/behavioral needs of the students as set forth in the IEP and in the treatment plan. This is a twelve-month position.

The Mill Pond Schools, with locations in Springfield and the Berkshires, serve students—kindergarten through age 22—who have social-emotional and/or behavioral challenges, a learning disability, or who may have a diagnosis of high-functioning Autism. We are committed to serving the whole child, including the child’s family. Our goal is to assist students in developing the skills necessary to successfully return to a less-restrictive environment, and, ultimately, to their previous school setting.

Schedule

This is a twelve-month position; year round.

Monday shift, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Tuesday – Friday shifts, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree with teaching certification or certification eligible. 
  • Requires Special Education Certification or be Special Certification certifiable. If not special education certifiable, teacher is required to enroll in special education certification program prior to starting the second year of employment.
  • Requires experience with children with emotional/behavioral challenges.
  • Requires good communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • Requires a current valid driver’s license.
