Ramboll currently has an opportunity in our Albany, NY office for a Project Geologist to support environmental investigation and remediation projects. This is a growth position for the right candidate to develop skills for managing technical and financial aspects of progressively larger, complex projects with varying levels of direct supervision depending on the project size and complexity.  In addition, a strong technical education, professional demeanor, and desire to learn is a necessity.

You will join our Environment and Health department

As our new Consultant, you will be part of our interdisciplinary Hartford, CT team. You will work with all levels of expertise from junior level team members to members with decades of experience, many of whom are subject matter experts in their fields. Consultants and Managers are part of a continual learning environment where they learn through coaching, mentoring and on-the-job tasks.

The ideal candidate for this position will be responsible for the following:

  • Supporting larger, complex investigation and remediation projects under both RCRA and CERCLA programs, with a strong focus on subsurface investigations primarily in New York State
  • Developing technical scoping documents (e.g., work plans, quality assurance project plans, health & safety plans) 
  • Working with others to develop cost estimates and procure subcontractors and vendors, such as analytical laboratories, drillers, and surveyors
  • Functioning as a task manager to provide support to field teams during execution of investigation projects involving soil boring completion, monitoring well installation, and sampling of environmental media (soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor and air) 
  • Providing oversight of field crews and subcontractors (e.g., drillers, surveyors, geophysical subcontractors)
  • Evaluating field and analytical data utilizing modeling programs
  • Taking a lead role in the evaluation of field/analytical data and the preparation of technical reports
  • Leading and/or mentoring less experienced personnel in field and office activities
  • Spending 25 to 50% of annual working hours in the field

  • 6 - 10 years relevant experience 
  • BS or MS in Geology or Hydrogeology; Master’s degree preferred 
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification, with a current 8-hour refresher certificate
  • Working knowledge of New York State and federal regulations
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving capabilities 
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and lead a team 
  • Excellent technical writing skills and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of safety awareness
  • Experience with technical computer software (ArcGIS, CADD, AquiferWin, Surfer, etc.) a plus.

Candidates must have a valid driver’s license, be willing to work outside in all weather conditions and for extended periods. Candidates must also be able to meet the physical demands associated with performing field work. Field work may be performed at project sites with environmental media that has been impacted with hazardous substances and/or hazardous wastes.
