Job Title:Project Engineer

Summary:The project engineer will manage projects through all project phases, including inception, planning, engineering, cost estimate analysis, commissioning, and start up. The candidate will be responsible for teaming with senior project engineers to develop project scopes and leading execution of installation of projects in the Waterford Plant. The candidate will interface, team, and collaborate with the various plant functional departments including EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety), production/operations, chemical process, mechanical reliability engineering, quality control, maintenance organizations and other outside contractors as needed. The project engineer will report to the Capital Investment Manager.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Apply sound and best practice industry engineering principles to the design and maintenance of specialty chemical plants.

  • Work with internal engineering and operations teams to develop project scopes.

  • Day-to-day project execution through planning and scheduling, prioritizing and complying with safety requirements, such as the permitting process and LOTO.

  • Field checks and supervision to ensure quality construction and installation to the plant standards are followed.

  • Routine reviews to track project progress and communicate with key project stakeholders.

  • Ensures good communication between the cross-functional team members; promotes and motivates teamwork to complete projects safely, on time, and budget.

  • Consults with senior project engineers as needed to drive completion of projects.

  • Assists senior project engineers on large or complex technical projects/programs.

  • Owns the completion process and closure of operational area expenses to investment projects as assigned.

  • Development and maintenance of project budgets and tracking and reporting on project spending and forecasting.

  • Coordinate and manage contractors, and reinforce safe working practices, procedures, and required documentation in the field.

  • Audits field work execution and authorize changes to scope to support the project installation/construction.

  • Maintains a safe work environment.

  • Performs the above-mentioned responsibilities safely, ethically, and in compliance with all federal and state regulations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Capital Investment Manager.

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role

  • This position requires at least 3 years of technical/engineering professional experience.

  • Experience in execution of project phases including inception, design and engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning in an operating plant.

  • Strong individual accountability and support team, detail-oriented, team player, and safety-first mindset.

  • Experience leading and communicating with project teams and working with general contractors.

  • Exhibits strong personal EHS behaviors with a personal commitment to safety.

  • Ability to work with contractors and union-represented personnel in identifying hazards and risks, ensuring safe systems of work, and monitoring EHS performance.

  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to drive project progress and achieve project deliverables.

  • Be able to work on-site daily (>90% of the time).

The following are preferred for the role

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or similar.

  • Familiarity with project engineering stage-gate workflows and recognized industry standards and practices such as those of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and Construction Industry Institute (CII).

  • Experience in continuous improvement or White/ Yellow Belt Six Sigma Lean Training.

  • Working knowledge of PSM (process safety management) processes and systems.

  • Work experience in a chemical processing facility and/or oil & gas industries.

  • Experience with SAP project, maintenance, and purchasing transactions.

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, climb, twist, turn, grasp, and move about the facility. Walking, walking on irregular surfaces, and balancing will be required. Hearing, sight to include depth perception and color vision, and the ability to speak clearly will be required. Occasional lifting and moving up to 50 lbs. and the ability to comply with Personal Protective Equipment requirements (ability to pass a fit-test and wear a respirator is required for certain positions/locations).

The environment for this position is a Manufacturing setting, with exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noise. Candidates should be able to adapt to a traditional business environment. What We Offer:Base Pay Range: $75,800.00 - $111,210.00

The actual salary offered is determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill sets, and geography. Additionally, this role is eligible for incentive or sales variable compensation payments. The amount of these incentives is based on the terms of the Company's incentive plans, the Company's financial performance, and/or individual employee job performance.
