The Program:

At Medidata, interns will have the opportunity to accelerate their careers by working closely with experienced professionals and gain valuable, hands-on, full-time work experience. By being a part of our global organization, interns have the opportunity to work alongside our talented and committed professionals helping them to build a strong foundation for achieving their career goals. For 12 weeks, beginning May 20, 2024, interns will have an opportunity to gain a deep understanding of what it means to be a Medidatian. United around a single goal of empowering smarter treatments and healthier people. Medidatians work in a culture of curiosity, innovation and fun. You will be contributing to the line of business with sustainable and meaningful work.

Our Summer Internship program also includes instructor led training, guided mentorship, exposure to senior leadership and community service. In addition to individual and specific related responsibilities, each intern will participate in our Intern Innovation Lab. Assigned to cross-functional teams, interns will work closely to develop an innovative solution to a business problem currently facing Medidata. As they work diligently to present their final solutions to a panel of top Medidata leaders, we are confident that our interns will make a significant impact on our business.

About the Team:

We are seeking a Communications intern to join our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) team to help promote our enterprise-wide strategic goals and initiatives. During the internship, you will work on projects that have a measurable impact on our business while being coached and mentored by Medidata's DEIB professionals. You will learn the fundamentals of driving a DEIB strategy at a global organization, engage with varied stakeholders, and gain exposure to other functions across HR and the business.

DEIB is the engine that powers the Talent strategy for over 2,500+ employees globally to recruit, develop, and engage talent, and drive a culture of inclusion and belonging. The DEIB team executes the strategy in close partnership with the global People Team and key strategic partners. As the Communications Intern on our team, you will be providing essential communication support to drive awareness and engagement for our global DEIB initiatives.

Responsibilities:

As a member of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Center of Excellence, you will hit the ground running with impactful enterprise wide projects and hands-on learning to help advance our DEIB vision, mission and strategy.

During your internship, you will focus on:

  • Providing support to the expansion and delivery of BRG Framework and global governance model to grow and scale the program, and comms improvements
    • Create/updates BRG toolkits and resources
    • Create and update internal and external content
    • Create internal DEIB sites and calendars
    • Refresh DEIB Resources / Transfer content to internal platform
    • Understand current approach of BRG membership sign up process, and partner with BRG leads to implement membership process improvements.
  • Develop an inclusive annual DEIB communications plan and guide that establishes internal best practices for communicating externally and across the enterprise, inclusive of:
  • DEI Updates; Town Hall Presentations; Heritage / Awareness Months; Social Justice Comms; BRG Comms; Social Media Blogs; mid year / YE annual reporting; DEIB/CSR annual report
  • Support content development and design for DEIB community presence on 3DS Platform and SLACK
  • Generate ideas and identify opportunities for creative storytelling to drive employee engagement and community impact via external social media platforms.
  • Create new content, including blogs, videos for internal and external web and communities (platform)
  • Evaluate and offer improvements for accuracy and simplification of DEIB and Employee Business Resource Group quarterly / annual reporting
  • Working with our Analytics & Operations teams to support design scorecards to effectively measure the progress and impact of our DEI initiatives/efforts .
  • Design infographics, powerpoint templates, etc. to effectively present and report out on the progress and impact of our DEIB initiatives/efforts
  • Partner with the social media team to develop best practices for social media content/ sharing processes to elevate BRG and DEIB social presence.
  • Research industry related awards and develop a process for applying, tracking, and evaluating these awards

The ideal intern will have the following:

  • Interest or experience in DEI data reporting
  • Experience working collaboratively (internally and externally) across key partners and groups.
  • Strong graphic design skills
  • Ability to manage the numbers and the narrative
  • Strategic Prioritization and interpersonal communication skills
  • Creative problem solving skill sets
  • Comfort navigating through the gray.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging initiatives. Prior relevant work experience or coursework is a plus.
  • Commitment to social justice in life sciences
  • Deep social media experience (content and influence)
  • Ability to execute with minimal direction and prepared to navigate change with patience and optimism
  • Able to work individually, as well as, part of a group, with curiosity and flexibility.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and to meet deadlines
  • Intellectually curious; always willing to probe deeper to understand organizational behavior and performance
  • Possess a "can do" approach, and courage to share your thoughts and suggest innovative ideas.
  • Experience/interest in data, analytics or data visualization is a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office/ Google Office, Powerpoint, Excel, Slack,

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program (i.e.junior or senior, graduate student, or recent university graduate)
  • This position will be a virtual internship and is open to geographies outside of the NYC area. For NY/NJ metro regions, option for hybrid role - NY/NJ two days a week in office.

The salary range posted below refers only to positions that will be physically based in New York. As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location. Pay ranges for candidates in locations other than New York, may differ based on the local market data in that region. The base hourly pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00 an hour and a $3,500 sign on bonus.
