CHA Consulting, Inc. is currently seeking an Engineer III to join our Power & Manufacturing - Utilities Infrastructure/Electric Substation Team at our Hartford, CT office location.

YOUR IMPACT

CHA Consulting, Inc. is looking to hire the Engineer III position to work in our Rocky Hill, CT office. This is a hybrid position, so the candidate will be allowed to work remotely, but must also work at the physical office several times a week. The Engineer III position conducts the design development, implementation, and technical analysis of various systems to implement new products, or changes to an existing scheme, to suit individual client needs. At CHA, our Engineer III has a broad knowledge of engineering procedures and assists in the resolution of complex problems. This position will also aid senior engineering staff in preparing technical reports, contract documents and cost estimates for various engineering tasks.

Specifically, the Engineer III position will perform the following duties:

    Independently complete routine development of engineering design, preparation of specifications, compile technical reports and other activities requiring knowledge of standard
  • principles and techniques;
  • Perform work on projects involving more complex procedures and techniques;
  • Responsible for development of computation methods, technical reports and technical specifications at the direction of senior engineering staff, the section manager or the technical
  • director using the standards established by the technical group;
  • Assist senior engineering staff in the preparation of contract documents;
  • Recognizes technical discrepancies in analytical results, makes appropriate corrections and follows standard procedures established by the technical group;
  • Develop a familiarity with company standards, client expectations and typical engineering practices;
  • Monitor progress and performance against the project plan;
  • Act immediately to resolve operational problems and minimize delays;
  • Identify, develop, and gather technical resources necessary to complete assignments;
  • May be responsible for large portions of projects with supervision from senior engineering staff, the section manager or the technical director;
  • Accompany senior engineering staff on field assignments when appropriate; and
  • Perform other appropriate related engineering duties necessary to complete assignments.

The Engineer III position will also work on the following projects:

  • Substation Terminal Upgrade Project:
    • Design and analyze DC/AC elementary, relay panel wiring, and Civil Drawings for the Substation Terminal upgrade project to accommodate the 69 to 115 kV voltage conversion, which adds reliability to the system while being able to accommodate any future load growth.
  • Development of System Protection Relay Settings
    • Develop system short circuit model, existing protection relay settings, design required modifications, and ensure coordination of protection devices
  • Design System Model
    • Independently design the 115 & 33 kV system model on EasyPower to coordinate the Time current curves for the system and fault duties on the 33 kV buss at client's Substation.
  • Analysis of Test Reports
    • Manage and analyze test reports for NERC PRC standards during audits for utility companies and provide auditors with accurate data and help the utility avoid potential non-compliance
  • Power Flow Studies
    • Analyze power flow studies to view the impact of connection 7.5 MW of fuel cell generation on the system installed at the client's location
  • Monitoring Outages for Utility Companies
    • Track and monitor outages for the utility companies. Calculate reliability stats such as SAIDI, CAIDI, MAIFI, and ASAI, which in turn helps get a better understanding of where system hardening is necessary

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or related field
  • Fundaments of Engineering (FE) qualification in electrical and computer; and two (2) years of experience as an engineer (at any level), which includes two (2) years of experience with the following: Analysis of power distribution and design of electric substations; NERC audits; andAutoCAD and Easy-Power
SALARY RANGE:

$85,000 - $99,000

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
